When?
Friday 15th to Sunday 17th May 2020
(Can’t make it? Sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of the page for details of future events.)
What’s involved?
A knock-out competition in Catching Features.
You’ll run in a series of mass start races against other people. There’ll be a variety of course lengths and types of different terrain from all around the world, including urban, forest, open mountains, and parks.
Everyone will get to run at least four races.
There’ll only be one class, so you need to be happy to do challenging courses!
Timings
We’re offering a variety of times when you can run the races. When you enter, you’ll need to tell us what times you can’t race. We’ll then do our best to allocate people fairly across the races.
The main round of races will be between Friday evening and Saturday evening. The semi-finals (if a lot of people enter) and final will take place on Sunday evening.
Scoring
Depends how many people enter 😉
The final will be a mass start, with the winner crowned Knock-Out Champion!
What do I need?
You’ll need Catching Features, plus a desktop computer or laptop. Having a separate mouse is also good idea.
If you don’t have Catching Features we can provide a 40% discount code after you’ve entered, in your entry confirmation email. If you’ve never played before, we recommend trying the free demo version first. Then, if you’re still keen, enter as soon as possible to allow time for practising beforehand!
Will there be prizes?
Yes! For the top three.
How do I enter?
You can enter via Fabian4.
Entry deadlines and fees:
- Before 23:59 BST on Monday 11th May: £6 for adults, £4 for juniors/students
- Before 23:59 BST on Wednesday 13th May: £8 for adults, £5 for juniors/students
There is an entry limit of 100, unless more people who can host Catching Features come forward.
Who’s behind Lockdown Orienteering?
The competition is coordinated by Chris Smithard.
Part of your entry fee will be split between the GB Squad and the development of orienteering in North Macedonia.
PS…
The current situtation is having a massive impact on the events industry, including orienteering businesses. Please support them however you can. For example, you could consider buying that new compass you need or replacing those worn-out trail shoes now, rather than waiting for real orienteering to start again.
